Landscape

My work is inspired by places that are familiar and important to me. I love the Peak District and since settling in this part of the world, a few years ago I have been out drawing and painting, particularly around Stanage Edge. The prints are made from my memories of the shapes and colours in the landscape through the seasons.

My woodcuts are made up of between two and three blocks. These are made of plywood. As I print a woodcut, I experiment with different colour combinations and with the order of printing the blocks, printing some of them upside down. I often use the same block twice in one print. The motifs are retained and recur through the images but the composition becomes more abstract as I mix the blocks around.

The mono-prints are made using a range of techniques and materials. I may ink up and wipe an image for printing, or sometimes I paint onto the plate. I include many techniques for creating textures on the final print. Often my prints have been made up of two separate colour printings to make a final image.
